att Uverse

ATT uverse is at&t's new iptv product. This is comprable to verizon's fios network. The big difference between the two is that att uverse is built on a FTTN(fiber to the node) platform where verizon is built on a FTTP(fiber to the prem) network. An easy description of the FTTN network is the signal coming from at&t's offices is sent out on fiber to a piece of equipment called a vrad or the node. It enters the vrad on fiber the signal then gets converted to travel on the copper lines that are carrying your telephone signal already. It's pretty amazing that att uverse can use your existing phone lines to carry this level of digital tv signal, att dsl and your phone lines.

With ATT uverse since the signal is traveling over copper, to your house. There is a limitation to the distance the signal can travel. I believe as of right now the max you can live from the node is 3500ft. This is a cable foot measurement not a driving measurement. For the products limitations it has amazing benefits the picture is amazing on all channels, not just on the HD channels. All the channels are digital quality none of the analog fuzz that shows up on the cable systems in the non digital range.

The other advantage att uverse has is price.I believe the most inclusive package that att uverse offers is around 400 channels with att yahoo dsl for around $120. I know I pay way more for my cable bill. There are many packages to choose from or create your own.

I hope I've shed some light on the new att uverse product. I'll continue to add more info and make your aware of anything that I can.

Here's a little video of a guy going through alot of features on the att uverse set top box. He's a little over the top, but some decent information.
